40 in the Fort Mountain Bike Race Returns!
Two tough laps.
7,000 feet of climbing.
40 miles.
July 7th, 2012.
Join us for the 2012 version of the 40 in the Fort. A mountain bike endurance race that will challenge your legs, you lungs, and your handling skills. We had so much fun doing the first one, we thought we'd do it again.
As one racer put it last year, "Finally, a real mountain bike course."
A couple of things:
1. The course will be altered and details will be released closer to the race. The Mill Creek climb has been removed, but don't fret. We have a few other surprises in store.
2. A limited number of riders will be able to ride in the "Just for Fun" class. Two riders will team up. Each rider will do one lap. We added this to make the race even more accessible to riders with less experience.
Warmer weather and longer days are just around the corner which means mountain bikers can start to SHRED! Our Spring Celebration is just around the corner. Save the date. Tell your friends. Food! Fun! Refreshments! And of course, lots of information.
More info on its way but for now, save the date:
March 7th @ 6:30 p.m.
At New Belgium - our wonderful sponsors.
Bring a friend, bring a date, bring a bike. We don't care, just show up!
More than 70,000 people came to play at Tour de Fat, helping to continue
bicycle advocacy and environmental stewardship
The section of the Foothills Trail we all know as Shoreline got a nice little face lift on Saturday thanks to about 25 volunteers working closely with Larimer County trail staff. Thanks to everyone who came out. And the Social Ride to enjoy the work was quite fun too. Speaking of Social Stuff, more info about this Monday night’s shenanigans are just around the corner. Keep reading…
Speaking of trail work, this Saturday, Oct. 23rd, we’ve got another trail day at Bobcat Ridge. Steve and Doug have a great day of work planned. Overland members who plan on attending, please sign up on the Event Sign Up in the Member Resources section. If you are not a club member, please use the Contact Form on our website and let us know you’re coming.
Hey! Just wanted to send out a quick re-cap of Tuesday night's trail meeting. Thanks, everyone, for finding your way down to the bonfire at the NBB volleyball courts. Some of you have some pretty interesting tales of wandering helplessly around the brewery, nearly missing the meeting, then suddenly being met by an angel offering free beer and smiles :)
OCTOBER 23rd (NEXT WEEKEND!) - Final Bobcat trail day
Four intrepid mountain bikers left Ft. Collins on Friday morning to participate in the 16th Annual 24 Hours of Moab Race in Moab, Utah. Our fearless Captain, Ron, was the more experienced of the team, as he had competed in times past. The remainder of us were looking to him for advice, instruction and support. He did all of that well. Friday was spent setting up camp, organizing game plans and relaxing before the big day. We fired up the custom made OMBC Grill and had buffalo burgers, baked beans and mashed taters.(oh yeah and beer...)
Our last Adopt-a-Trail Day on the Shoreline Trail. Bring your ideas and bring your gloves. We'll look at what needs to be done and get after it. Please wear long pants and sturdy shoes. Bring water and a snack. Overland will provide lunch. If you plan on attending, please email Doug Baker. 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
The leaves may be changing color and falling, but there’s still plenty of good biking to be had… (BTW: These articles are always more than a paragraph. Click READ MORE below to continue.)
My apologies for being a bit tardy on the blog the past couple of weeks. I’ll do my best to catch everyone up to speed. I’ve added a contest in this week to add a little incentive for you to continue reading...
Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day was a huge success. Thanks to everyone who came out to play and/or volunteer. I know my kids had a great time.
Aren’t trail days good for the soul? In the past couple of weeks, we’ve had people digging in the dirt at Curt Gowdy, Lory State Park, and the Shoreline Trail. Thanks to everyone who “Grabbed yer Pulaski” or “Manhandled your McCloud”. The trails can’t speak but I know they appreciate it and I know the land agencies appreciate it. By the way, check out the Gallery for photos from Shoreline. And visit Overland’s Facebook page for some awesome photos of the Overland Grill which was finally put to “official” use on Saturday with Grill Master Thomson manning the tongs.
Notes from the September 13 Communications Team meeting
In attendance: Kory Swanson, Doug Baker, Pete Skram, Monty Seitz
We cordially, and with many diversions:
- Reviewed and agreed on improvements to the new Overland poster, brochure, and Trails Team poster
- Decided there were no further major events we needed to publicize this year
- Discussed options for better orientating new members, agreeing on a recommendation to the Board
