Tour de Fat
Good Monday to you all. As always, I hope you’ve been finding time to ride.
We can still use volunteers for several different areas at the Tour de Fat, the awesomest bike festival anywhere on earth! If you work an extra shift or haven’t signed up at all, PLEASE SIGN UP HERE. As you’re getting your costume together, here’s this week’s outlook:
New Patrol Jerseys: The new patrol jerseys and vests are in. I will bring them to TiPS and the Social Ride. Cost: $45.00
About 10 years ago, Diamond Peaks Mountain Bike Patrol, now a service of Overland Mountain Bike Club, was approached by the good folks at New Belgium and I imagine the discussion went something like this:
New Belgium fella: "We're putting together this bicycle parade complete with costumes and a party. We need your help."
Singletrack Socials
Our social rides continue to be very popular. Most Wednesday evenings we meet at Spring Canyon Park and head out. Rides are leveled from easy to difficult. Easy rides generally stay in Pineridge while difficult rides head up Maxwell, down Shoreline, and sometimes even over to Michaud. Aftewards, we gather for some socializing and refresh ourselves. All levels of riders welcome and everyone is invited. Make sure your bike is in good working condition and you must wear a helmet to participate. These are “No drop rides”. For more info and to find out where the “Super Secret” ride is at the end of the month, visit our calendar.
More than 70,000 people came to play at Tour de Fat, helping to continue
bicycle advocacy and environmental stewardship
High Fives will be plentiful this Saturday. Tour de Fat CRUNCH time has arrived. Volunteers are still needed. If you signed up for one slot and can do two, please do so. If you signed up for two and can do three, please do... We're a little light in a couple of areas and could really use the help. SIGN UP HERE. It'll make you feel good!
A huge thanks to Steve Lacey for sharing his Colorado Trail Experience. You can read more about it HERE.
Congrats to Joe Perrin for winning this month's Patroller award!
And thanks to Catalyst for hosting our meetings throughout the year. Farewell.
Seems like when the college kids roll back into town, I see a whole bunch of folks on the trail without a helmet - especially Maxwell. And for those of you who were riding in the social ride on Wednesday, you know first hand that a helmet saved a life when a rider went over the bars and landed on top of her head on a rock. The dented and cracked lid now resides in my garage and will be used to educate others. And yes, Jen's been a bit sore, but she'll be back to ride another day. Patrollers and non-patrollers alike - please talk to people about the benefits of an intact skull.
The Tour de Fat, the most awesome bike parade and festival, rolls into town on September 4th. Overland Mountain Bike Club provides 100's of volunteers for the day and is our biggest fundraiser of the year. Please SIGN UP to help. Questions? Contact Our TdF Volunteer Co-ordinator, Barb Allan
