Overland Mountain Bike Club
On Saturday, June 8th, Overland Mountain Bike Club will be working with Larimer County to create an additional spur of the Sawmill trail in the valley that heads north and connects near the connection of Horsetooth Mountain Park and Lory State Park. In addition there may be some work on the Sawmill reroute that was completed last year.
Please join us for this fun trail day. We'll meet at the Soderberg Open Space trailhead parking lot at 8:30 am. Plan to work until 2 or so. Lunch will be served at the completion of the day in the Soderberg parking lot. Please bring boots, gloves, snacks for when you are on the trail and plenty of water. Long pants and hats are highly encouraged.

The City of Fort Collins Trail Day at Reservoir Ridge that was originally set to take place May 11th has been rescheduled to Saturday, June 15, 2013. We had over 35 volunteers sign up for the original event and would like to get at least that many again. If you registered previously, please re-register, as we were not able to reuse the original signup:

We received notification from Kristy Wumkes at the Forest Service that the Hewlett Gulch trail will be closed for approximately 1 week beginning May 9th for heli-mulching.
What the heck is heli-mulching, you ask? Well, it is the practice of dropping mulch from the air using, you guessed it, a helicopter. It is often used to help with erosion control after a fire.
Probably want to avoid that trail unless you want to get a pile of mulch on your head and have Kristy and the Forest Service be very angry with you (not good). Seriously, though, please avoid the area so the Forest Service can do their work and we can have a better Hewlett Gulch Trail to ride for the rest of the Summer.
Please check with the Forest Service to see when the trail will be open again or as soon as we know, we will post it here.
Unfortunately, the Reservoir Ridge Reroute Trail Project scheduled for Saturday, May 11 has been cancelled due to rainy weather and muddy trail conditions.
At this time, Reservoir Ridge Natural Area is closed and staff are predicting that it will still be closed on Saturday because it is supposed to rain the rest of the week. Rain and lightning has also greatly interfered with the Public Improvement Staff's ability to prep the site and prepare for the project.
The project will be rescheduled to a yet to be determined date. Once a date has been set, we will put up an announcement.
Once again, thanks for volunteering and we hope that you will consider coming out and help us with this project when we have a new date set.
Looks like the Mother Nature doesn't like our Social Rides anymore. The word this week is that the "official" ride is cancelled, but Bill H will be at the Blue Sky trailhead should anyone want to brave the conditions. As always, please be careful to not damage the trails.
What could be better than warm weather, sunshine, and introducing the young members of our community to mountain biking and outdoor activities? After a combination of fire and weather conspired to cancel both Take a Kid events last year, this year is set to be better than ever.
Join Overland for the annual Spring Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day event on Saturday May 18, 2013, from 9:00am to 2:00pm. At this free event, we will introduce your kids to mountain biking, teach trail etiquette and use the fire at Lory for a lesson in environmental stewardship. Lunch will be provided and there will be swag for the kids.
Participants are limited to 50, so sign your kids up now.

Time for a Kick in the Sprocket - Indoor Social Ride at Crankenstein
It looks like once again Mother Nature is giving us a gift of snow and cancelling our weekly social ride. But instead of just sitting idly by, we will be having an Overland social at Crankenstein 6:00PM this Wednesday April 24. Stop by, talk mountain biking and make some new friends!
Cranknstein: 215A North College Avenue, Fort Collins
You probably didn't need confirmation of this, but due to the heavy snowfall, tonight's social ride has been cancelled. Once again, we will hope for rideable conditions for next week's Social Ride.
You have all seen, and tried to hike or ride the lower sections of the Foothills Trail on east side of the Reservoir Ridge Natural Area: another asteroid belt, deeply eroded and not too much fun. So, the City of Fort Collins Natural Areas Department is re-routing about 3/4 of a mile of trail at Reservoir Ridge to create sustainable, flowing singletrack and add a couple of technical rocky sections.
Join us for an opportunity to build new trail on May 11, at 8:30am at the Foothills Trail Michaud Lane Trailhead. Try to carpool, if possible, as parking is limited. Lunch and tools will be provided by Overland Mountain Bike Club and the City Natural Areas.

Unfortunately, due to the wet conditions, continuing snowfall and cold temperatures, we have decided to cancel the Wednesday Social Ride at Spring Canyon Park. We will hope for better weather next week.
