Retro Ride, Smoke, and a Couple of Trail Days
May 21, 2012 by bikekor
MONTHLY MEETING - TONIGHT
Our May meeting is tonight. We moved it up a week due to Memorial Day weekend. Hope to see you all at the Drake Centre tonight. Kenny Bearden, photographer extraordinaire, will be discussing shooting photos on the trails. We'll also add in a short talk about video since so many of us are tooling around with smart phones/go pros, etc. Meet at 6:30. See you then.
NEW BELGIUM RACES - TWO WEEKS LEFT
The NBB Short Track Races are in full SWING. A great intro to mountain bike racing. Overland is a sponsor so wear your jerseys/t-shirts and make us proud. $10 to race. Kids race free. Beer garden for the watchers. This event supports local high school mountain biking. More info.
RETRO RIDE AND MOVIE PREMIER - THIS WEDNESDAY
What the heck is a RETRO RIDE? We're mixing it up for the Singletrack Social on Wednesday. Ride the oldest mountain bike you've got. (Please be sure it's safe.) Dress in the oldest biking gear you've got. We're moving the clock back and having a little fun. Meet at Road 34 at 5:45 to ride by 6. We'll snake through the city streets and head up to Maxwell/Pineridge/Shoreline for our ride. We'll end up back at Road 34 for our Strength in Numbers movie premier. Plenty of time to ride and watch an awesome film. Tickets will be $8.00 at the door. The event (ride and film) is open to everyone so everyone should come. HO
FRIENDS OF LORY AND SAWMILL TRAIL DAYS ON THE HORIZON
One of our signature events has been our early summer trail day at Lory State Park - Friends of Lory Trail Day. This year it's on June 9. It's an opportunity to get out and give the trails we ride a little TLC. In the past, Friends of Lory has seen us fixing trouble spots, building new trail, and building/reinforcing bridges. Please sign up to volunteer today.
A couple of weeks later, on June 23, we have our Sawmill Trail Day at Horsetooth Mountain Open Space. If you've ridden Sawmill in the past year, you know how torn up it is - mainly because it's designed to channel water straight down it. Due to Overland's $5000 grant Larimer County was able to receive a much larger grant from the State of Colorado. Overland will help Larimer County clear trail corridor and build new trail on the bottom of Sawmill on June 23rd. Our good friend, member and former board member, Todd T. from Wyo (and mastermind behind Curt Gowdy) has assisted in flagging the route and it looks to be a lot of fun. Look for a volunteer sign up soon.
