Tour de Fat and Protect Yer Melon

August 23, 2010 by bikekor

Seems like when the college kids roll back into town, I see a whole bunch of folks on the trail without a helmet - especially Maxwell. And for those of you who were riding in the social ride on Wednesday, you know first hand that a helmet saved a life when a rider went over the bars and landed on top of her head on a rock. The dented and cracked lid now resides in my garage and will be used to educate others. And yes, Jen's been a bit sore, but she'll be back to ride another day. Patrollers and non-patrollers alike - please talk to people about the benefits of an intact skull.

Other than that, we've got the Tour de Fat right around the corner. It's less than two weeks away and is our main fundraiser for the year and a lot of fun! Thanks New Belgium! At this point, please don't worry about whether you are TIPS trained or not, just sign up. Have your friends sign up, your colleagues, your family. We especially need people to check ID's and sell tokens. We can't pour beer if people don't have wristbands or tokens. And the nice thing? You don't smell like beer when you're done with your shift. If you can sign up for more than 1 shift, please do so. We need everyone's help. (Benefits? 1 free t-shirt. 2 beverage tokens. Lots of high fives. Great people and bike watching.)

We've got our Monthly Meeting tonight where we will bid a fond farewell to Catalyst who will close their doors at the end of the month. They've been a great host over the past two seasons. We'll have a couple of guest speakers and pass out some monthly prizes.  Hope to see you there. Meeting starts at 6:30 p.m.

The Lory Mountain Challenge returns on Tuesday for it's final spin through the park. I had a blast two weeks ago when I raced. So did my kids. Adults are 10 bucks. Kids race free. Races start at 5:45. Be there early to sign up.

Wednesday Night is Social Ride Night at Maxwell. See you at 6! Social hour afterwards at Josh's. Bring something to share.

Overland MTB Club Board elections are coming soon. Please consider running. We have 3 open slots. Ask one of the current board members for more info.

September's going to be a busy month - especially for Trails. Please plan on coming and digging in the dirt with us on the 11th or the 18th or both!

Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day is October 2nd! Registration will be up soon. We are setting up a planning committee to make sure this is a great day for the kids. Please let us know if you'd like to help out.
