The Alternate Line: Mountain Bike Races Hit Lory State Park
August 8, 2010 by bikekor
I hate to say it, but I haven't found much time to ride in the past week. In fact, in the past seven days I've been out only once - much less than our pal, Steve Lacey, who's been in the thick of the Colorado Trail Race for the past week. For the middle of summer, that pretty much stinks for me. So, this week I've committed to getting out more. First off, on Tuesday, as penance for my lack of pedaling, I'm heading over to the Lory Mountain Challenge to get beaten into the ground while supporting high school mountain biking with my $10 entry fee.
On Wednesday, you'll find me meeting up at the Soderberg Trailhead for the Overland Social Ride. I may have to do some climbing as some added penance. (Towers to the top anyone?) And then over the weekend, I'll be slave to my very fit friend, Chris's whims as we roll somewhere up in the Estes Park area. As for today, Sunday, Monday, Thursday, and Friday, ummm....well....I'll have to see how things play out.
On a different note, Barb Allan, Overland's skills queen, and I were discussing my inability to corner. If I could figure out the cornering thing, I swear I'd be able to beat my 6-year old. Anyway, check out this great cornering article and video if you stink at leaning your bike over and letting it fly as much as I do. (Speaking of skills, there's a Beginner Men's Skills Clinic on Thursday with Shawn Brooks from the Cycologist.)
For those of you who know Chris Winn, who's been living at sea level for the past 24 months or so, I finally found a way to shut him up. C-L-I-M-B. We'll miss you until next time, buddy.
Also, there's a ton of stuff going on at Curt Gowdy and Glendo. Read about it.
Patrollers: Don't forget this month's challenge. The Patroller who shows increases their number of patrols by the highest percentage wins!
And now onto this week's stuff:
August 10th: Lory Mountain Challenge. Details HERE.
Trails Team Meeting: Check our calendar for times and location.
Wednesday, August 11th: Social Ride at Soderberg Trailhead. Be ready to ride by 6 p.m.

(A social hour will be held somewhere afterwards. Anyone want to volunteer their place or shall we meet at a local establishment?)
Thursday, August 12th: Beginner Men's Skills Clinic. Free to Overland members. All others, 10 bucks. (Might as well spend 10 more and become a member and reap the benefits! Click the JOIN button at the top of the page. It's easy. Really.)
In the not-so-very-distant future:
August 23rd: Monthly Meeting at Catalyst at 6:30 p.m.
September 4th: Tour de Fat - Get the prime volunteer slots now! We need your help! Volunteer Yourself! Get your friends and family involved too! This is our biggest fundraiser of the year. Help us help New Belgium make this event awesome!
