The Alternate Line: Mountain Bikers Keep Busy along the Northern Front Range

August 1, 2010 by bikekor

Weekly revelations: Knee pads and elbow pads are a good idea. Emergency orthopedic surgery on a Saturday night ain't fun. Sam splints, ace bandages, triangular bandages, and a cell phone can sure come in handy on the trail. Thank goodness for 4-wheel drive ranger trucks, and you're more likely to patch a friend up on the trail than you are a stranger. Have you checked your first aid kit lately?

Got to spend some quality time with the Reverend Ballyhoo over the weekend. Good times. Hope you all enjoyed yourselves.

Patrollers: New challenge this month. We're looking for the most improved Patroller. Whoever has the highest increase in the percentage of patrols over last month will be recognized at the next meeting. Thanks for all the work you do out there. Please remember to log your patrols.

We've got a busy week:

Tuesday, Aug. 3rd:The Lory Mountain Challenge kicks off this week. Volunteers are needed: We are looking for 5 people to help with Registration and 5 for on course.  We would like to get confirmation so please e-mail Jason Trujilloif you can help. These races benefit High School Mountain Biking. Get out and race and or volunteer if you can. An event has been added to the Member Resources side. You earn points for volunteering!

Wednesday, Aug. 4th: Social Ride at Maxwell. All levels of riders welcome. Social hour will be at Karen K's this week. Details will be given out at the trailhead. Thanks Karen! (Please bring something to share - either liquid or solids or both.) By the way, these Social Rides have become quite popular with 30 plus people showing up to ride. Nice!

Thursday, Aug. 5th: Intermediate Women's Skills Clinic. Meet up with Barb and Tami and learn some great skills. Sign up now! Space is limited. Free to members. 10 bucks for non. Please bring cash.

Saturday, Aug 7th: Shoreline Trail Day. Sign up HERE. We'd like this trail day to be a huge success. Next to Maxwell, Shoreline sees a ton of traffic and could really use some help. Please sign up no later than Thursday so we can get food ordered.

Sunday, Aug. 8th: Pedal to the Point. Patrollers are still needed to get out and help with this fundraiser for Turning Points. Hope you can help. Please sign up on the Member Resources side of the site.

Next Week: Social Ride is at Soderberg. Beginner ride will meet at Maxwell and ride Pineridge.

A tentative Communications Team meeting is scheduled for Monday the 9th. Keep your eye tuned to the calendar for confirmation.

Trails Committee will meet Tuesday night the 10th. Please check the calendar for more details on both.

Get out and ride.  And, please sign up for a Tour de Fat slot or 3. I already have! Help us make the Tour something special!
