Weekly Tidbits for July 6th

July 6, 2010 by bikekor

Find Freedom on a Bike!

Hope you all enjoyed the 4th of July weekend. Nice rainstrom, eh?  I enjoyed seeing a full room with a combination of new and old faces at Catalyst last Monday night. Great to see the club grow and evolve.

Points: Social rides are just that. Social. And yes, you earn points for showing up for Social rides and volunteering to ride sweep. But please don't double book these as Patrols. If you have been doing so, please go back and delete those 'patrols' from your points bank. (For the newer folks: We have a points system that is a friendly competition each season. It began as a way to track patrols and encourage involvement. The points system has grown into other events as the club has grown. At the end of the season, we hand out awards based on point totals at our final meeting. If you have questions about how earn your points or add yourself to an event so you get points, please ask one of us or use the contact form to send us an email.

This week:

Tonight, Tues, July 6th: Trail Committee Meeting at Cafe Vino. Open to the public. Meet and discuss local trail projects

Wednesday, Julty 7th: Social Ride starting at Maxwell Natural Area just south of the CSU Stadium. All levels of riders welcome.  Social hour afterwards. Bring something to share!

Thursday, July 8th: Trail Work on Ginny Trail. Meet at the Bobcat Ridge parking lot at 6 p.m. for a couple of hours of trail lovin'. Doug and Steve could use some help. They've completed a bunch of work and still have a few projects left.  This work has been well received by the City of Fort Collins. Thanks Steve and Doug!

Beginner Men's Skills Clinic: Want to hone your mountain bike skills? Thursday night's the night. Use the link at the top right hand corner of the page to register and get all the info. This should be a great clinic. Plenty of slots open.

Ladies Ride: The Overland Ladies ride again and Thursdays. Starting at Maxwell Natural Area, the ladies meet. The ladies ride. I believe the ladies socialize.

Thursday Night Ride with Rob: Rob Foster hosts a weekly night ride. Call him at Lee's Cyclery South for more info.

Saturday, July 10th: Trail Day at the Rimrock/Blue Sky Trail. 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. We'll be working on a project that involves making the steps on the Rimrock/Blue Sky Trail intersection more "cyclist" friendly. Everyone is welcome to help make this project a success. I don't have info on where this project meets. I'll find out and update as soon as I know. Check the calendar too.

Monday, July 12th: Communications Team Meeting, 6:30 - 8 p.m. Interested in helping get the word out about our events, trail days, and fun rides? Our Communications Team gets the word out. Meeting is at Cafe Vino.

Tuesday, July 13th: Trail Maintenance with New Belgium. New Belgium Brewery, our main sponsor, adopted Hewlett's Gulch a few years back. Three times a year, they go out and show the trail some lovin'. All Overland members are invited to come out and help make this awesome trail even better. Show our friends at New Belgium how much you appreciate them and show up in force! Hope to see you there.  Leaving at 2:30 from NBB or meet at Hewlett at 3.

Patrollers Wanted: Sol Vista Basin @ Granby Ranch is looking for 20 volunteers for USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Champions this July 15th – 18th.  We are looking for certified patrollers that will be course marshals/medics on our downhill and 4X courses primarily.Hours are still to be determined.  7 am is usual start time and some days go till 9:30pm with races under the lights.

Volunteer compensation:
 -Free event t-shirt

-If all four days are worked then a free summer bike pass, ski pass, or 4- 18 holes of golf at Headwaters golf course will be options.

Lodging:
A River Camp, which is located near the Fraser River (and UP Railroad tracks), is  comprised of two canvas wall tents and are equipped with log furniture, outdoor sink, counter, kitchen essentials, fresh water, porta-potties and beds.  It sleeps 13 people, but there is room for more blow up mattresses or plenty of tent spaces. First come first served.  You can also fish and the camp  has a  big fire pit. For those who don’t want to “rough it,” The Inn at Silvercreek is 1 mile from the mountain, but there are no discount rates available during the race.  There are also plenty of small motels located in the town of Granby.

Those interested in volunteering, please contact Sol Vista Patrol Director, Heather Crammond, at 970-887-5171 or  skipatrol@GRANBYRANCH.com

And that's about it for this week. As always, if you have something to share, please send it my way. You can do so using the 'contact' button on the website.

And one 'geek' point gets awarded to Pete Skram for discovering the first glitch with the new website.
